BUTUAN 2030: The New Bancasi Airport
The project aims to meet the Green Demands suited for Airport operations of Mindanao. This would involve using its natural resources. Since the Northern portion of Mindanao is predominantly supplied through hydroelectric power, which is contrary to the excessive heat gain in the area. This would lead to constant black-outs in the area, opening the idea of the CAAP Green Project to use solar power in the area.
The project also aims to showcase and utilize the history of the area as an effort to raise tourism potential and usage of natural tourist destinations present. This is reflected on the original plan to showcase an underground museum] adjacent to the airport within the rotunda. Due to inefficiency, the small scaled cultural museum, which would host dioramas and audio visual presentations, was proposed to be moved within the airport complex ass an effort to welcome and orient tourists to butuan. This would lead to connectivity between the history and culture of the area.
Connectivity to ones roots is something that technology has given way to enable. These innovations include live video chats to reconnect to your loved ones. Connectivity is also how we trace our history, learning from it to enable a better future. The design would heavily connect itself to the context of Butuan, utilizing the view of mt. mayapay, the mountain which has said to have created Butuan, as a reminder of passengers to the start of Mindanao.
Though paving the future with a greener pasture would be the popular movement of today’s designs, the development of technology has both shared contributions in sustainability as well as hindrances for the speedy ecologically concerned movement. A balance and connection between the history of an area and its behaviour would allow the greener pasture that is needed to lead aviation around Mindanao for the foreseen development of air traffic.
